Upon her death in 1974, Lady Baillie left the castle to the
Leeds Castle Foundation, a private charitable trust whose aim
is to preserve the castle and grounds for the benefit of the
public forever.
In accordance with her wishes, the castle is kept as a living
house, with bedrooms that regularly accommodate guests at weddings,
conferences and banquets. In the last thirty years over 10 million
people have visited the castle.

The Leeds Castle Foundation coat of arms granted in
1999 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Foundation.
It costs around £2.7 million each year to maintain the castle and keep it looking so beautiful.
The charity achieves this through the income it generates from visitors and from events. Generally, it receives no grant funding or any government support. Every penny donated is ploughed back into long-term preservation projects.
